#BookReview: MY ROOMMATE IS A VAMPIRE by Jenna Levine @jeenonamit @centurybooksuk

Publication: 28th September 2023 – Penguin Books UK

Two strangers. One apartment.
Will it be love at first… bite?

Cassie Greenberg needs a new place to live, and fast. When she finds an affordable apartment in a beautiful neighbourhood, she knows there must be a catch.

Of course, her new roommate Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is far from normal. He sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel.

He is also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, always asks about her day, and doesn’t look half bad shirtless on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake.

There’s no denying there’s a spark between them – but there’s also a secret…

With true love at stake, will Frederick come clean?

Cassie Greenberg needs to find a room soon or she will be homeless. However, she is sceptical when she finds an ad offering a room for rent at a very low price in a very good area in Chicago. Surely, there is something wrong with it, but she is desperate and she replies to it. The house is beautiful with a view of the lake, although the furniture could use an upgrade, and the handsome owner, Frederick Fitzwilliam, seems to have come right out from Victorian England with his three-piece suit and solemn speech. He tells her that he sleeps all day and he’s out all night, so they will rarely cross paths. It looks like the perfect arrangement, so Cassie moves in: sure, he doesn’t own any kitchenware or any food and he doesn’t know what the wifi is, but he leaves her lovely and sweet handwritten letters and he compliments her art, even if he doesn’t understand it. Everything seems to be going smoothly, until, one evening, she opens the fridge and discovers his secret…

I loved My Roommate Is A Vampire!!! It is funny, fresh, and entertaining and I read it in one day. I adored the characters. Cassie is fun, relatable, and authentic, a struggling artist trying to make ends meet with part-time jobs, and I loved Frederick. He is always so gentle, kind, and polite and so adorably clueless about the modern world. The letters they exchanged were my favourite part of the story and their irresistible attraction and their romance kept me glued to the page.

And let’s not forget Reginald, one of the best supporting characters ever, whose hilarious texts to Frederick always made me laugh out loud.

My Roommate Is A Vampire is an incredible and immersive debut and I can’t wait to read more by this author. Highly recommended!!!

A huge thank you to Penguin Books and NetGalley for providing me with a proof of this fantastic novel.

When Jenna isn’t writing she can usually be found crying over k-dramas, starting knitting projects she won’t finish, or spending time with her family and small army of cats.
