After that night, nothing was ever the same again …

Fifteen years ago, Sara Linton’s life changed forever when a celebratory night out ended in a violent attack that tore her world apart. Since then, Sara has remade her life. A successful doctor, engaged to a man she loves, she has finally managed to leave the past behind her.

Until one evening, on call in the ER, everything changes. Sara battles to save a broken young woman who’s been brutally attacked. But as the investigation progresses, led by GBI Special Agent Will Trent, it becomes clear that Dani Cooper’s assault is uncannily linked to Sara’s.

And it seems the past isn’t going to stay buried forever …

This is one of my favourite series and I am always excited when a new book comes out. I adore Will and Sara, and Faith and Amanda, and it’s always thrilling to see what they are up to next.

The books can be easily read as a stand-alone, but if you’ve read the previous novels, you already know that Dr. Sara Linton’s life dramatically changed fifteen years earlier when she was sexually assaulted. Her attacker was sent to prison, but now, following her testimony in a wrongful death case, her past is back to haunt her.

After That Night is not at all an easy story to read. There are scenes that were really hard to go through. They can be chilling, disturbing, and highly emotional, especially the descriptions of assault narrated from the victims’ perspectives. In particular, Sara’s account of her own assault, the trauma and the consequences on her life, how it affected her relationship with her family and friends, was candid and brave and it will stay with me for quite a while.

Will Trent and Sara Linton are one of my favourite couples in fiction and I love how close and honest their relationship is in this latest book. And Faith and Amanda are as amazing as ever. Faith’s worry about her son Jeremy wanting to join the forces is heartfelt and relatable, while Amanda proves, once again, that nothing goes past her and it is always best to get her involved.

Full of twists and turns, high tension, a shocking ending, and the author’s skilful and addictive writing, After That Night is another brilliant and thought-provoking novel by Karin Slaughter and I am already looking forward to the next one!

A huge thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for providing me with a proof of this novel.
